Used Book Policy

Cleaning out your bookshelves? We now take used books!

We take pride in our beautiful store and because we’re limited on space, we tend to be picky about the used books we take. We are dedicated to providing what our community wants to read and to providing only the best selection for you.  Below are a few general guidelines regarding what we do and do not take:

Things we like to get:

  • Recent fiction, mystery, sci-fi/fantasy, horror, romance

  • Recent non-fiction, as well as timeless staples

  • Southern Oregon history

  • Classics, especially nice/unusual hardcover

  • Science and Nature

  • Young adult, middle reader and nice picture books, the more recent the better

  • Children picture books and board books

Things we don’t take:

  • Encyclopedias and most other sets

  • Things that are dated (travel guides, Guinness World Records, political science, diet/health books, sciences, etc.)

  • Most hardcover fiction - including mystery and sci-fi/fantasy - after it’s released in paperback. (There are some exceptions.)

  • Most coffee table book

A Note on Condition:

  • Books need to be in very good shape for resale. We cannot accept books that are dirty, musty, mildewy, falling apart, underlined/highlighted/written in.

  • Hardcovers need dust jackets, unless they were issued without.

When can I bring in my used books?

You don’t need an appointment to bring in books but we are only accepting used books on weekdays from 10am-3pm.

Sometimes, we can’t take all the books you bring in, but we’ll always offer to donate what we can’t take. We donate books to several organizations in our area - CASA of Klamath County, The Gospel Mission, Treasures Thrift Store and the Sky Lakes Cancer Treatment Center.

How does the trade-in process work?

Bring in your books, we’ll go through them and either offer you store credit or offer to donate them. This is how we will decide on the store credit amount: For paperbacks, we give 25% of the publisher’s price in store credit.

For example, if the book is $8.00, you’ll get $2.00 in store credit. ($8.00 X .25 = $2.00) For hardbacks, we price the book, then give you 25% of our price.

Your store credit is good for one year.

How do I use my store credit?

We will have a gift card loaded with your store credit amount. You are welcome to use 100% of your store credit on used books. If you are purchasing new titles, gifts and bookmarks, you can use 50% of the purchase with your store credit.

For example, if you want to purchase a new book for $30 and a bookmark for $4, you are able to use $17 from your store credit and the other $17 will need to come from cash or card. 50% discount is pretty sweet!
